I got married, I've been showing some photography at local galleries, I had a fabulous summer vacation with Isobel and Kate.... Now it's finally cooling off and I am relishing the autumn weather.
Now for a rant:
I don't do much modeling anymore... I really only trust female photographers who are friends to photograph me (and most of them aren't local). Maybe if I put more effort into toning and stopped eating things like cider donuts I'd get over my angst about whose lens I'll pose for. There are very few people I expose myself to (whether I'm posing naked or clothed - doesn't matter) because of my insecurities. I think the biggest difference I've found between male and female photographers is that if I tell a female photographer that I'm concerned about the size of my arms or my waist she'll take a moment now and then to re-direct my pose, or remind me to suck in my gut, etc. etc. Where-as a male photographer might feel uncomfortable criticizing my physique (or lack of) or isn't focused on the areas that I consider "problems". I feel like most of the male photographers I've met are more concerned with the technicalities of a piece than really developing the model into her full potential and working with her assets while helping to hide her flaws. (Because we're all human and none of us are perfect. .. even "flawless" models can get caught in unflattering poses.)
I like everything to be perfect. .. I mean... yeah, there's Photoshopping - but used on a grand scale I consider it cheating. I want every detail to be right - no weird folds or bunches in costumes, no folds in my skin, no errant strands of hair stuck to my lipstick, etc. etc.
So.. back to Jillian Michaels kicking my ass.
(And no, this is not a ploy to get people to tell me I'm just fine the way I am, or to tell me to shut up about my weight because I'm a woman and all women are crazy-obsessed with their appearance, etc. etc. - I'm just explaining why I will so rarely update this gallery. It's part of my aging process, I think. I don't know.)
